Server RAID Controller
The PowerVault MD1000 is supported on the Dell family of external PERC controllers. Installed in a PCI-express slot inside a PowerEdge Server, the RAID controller creates a logical volume across multiple hard drives (or ''spindles'') for performance and protection. A RAID controller is not required if the MD1000 is being daisychained to another MD-series Dell storage enclosure. Please note that the PERC 5 family requires a different server image than the PERC 6.

Hard Drives (Multi-select)
Choose the same capacity and spindle speed when configuring RAID performance and protection on multiple hard drives. Performance can be optimized by increasing the number of drives (or spindles) in a virtual RAID set and by choosing a high spindle speed (15,000 RPM). Minimum configuration requires two hard drives and thirteen fillers. Maximum configuration allows for 15 hard drives.

Cables
A cable is needed to connect the PowerVault MD1000 to the server RAID controller or to daisy-chain behind another MD-series storage enclosure. SAS cables are constructed using twin-axial wiring to support high-bandwidth differential signaling.
